# Silent Solver

> A Chrome extension that reads the multiple-choice and written-response
> questions on an online test and fills in the answers. Live on Blackboard
> today; Canvas and D2L Brightspace are in development.

Silent Solver runs only on the tab you trigger it on, only at the moment you
trigger it. It reads the question text and the answer options on that one
page, selects the correct multiple-choice option, and types a full answer into
written-response fields. The person taking the test reviews the answers and
submits; the extension never submits anything.

## Facts

- Product: Silent Solver, a Chrome extension. Not a website tool, not an app.
- Activation: click Activate in the extension popup, or press Ctrl + Shift + S
  (Command + Shift + S on Mac).
- Question types: multiple choice and written response (short answer, essay).
- Price: the first 3 questions of every test are free, forever, with no
  account. Unlimited questions are $10/month, billed through ExtensionPay.
- Rating: 5.0 on the Chrome Web Store.
- Permissions requested, and only these four: activeTab and scripting, to read
  and fill the single test tab when activated; storage, to keep settings and
  licence on the local machine; commands, for the keyboard shortcut. No host
  permissions, no browsing history, no access to other tabs.
- Data: question text and answer options from the active test page are sent to
  the backend to compute an answer. Logins, browsing history and other tabs are
  never read.

## Platform support

- Blackboard: live. Works on both current experiences, the newer Ultra course
  view and the classic Learn Original test screen. Learn Original reaches end
  of life in December 2026.
- Canvas: in development. Both Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes are the goal;
  they render questions differently and are built and tested separately.
- D2L Brightspace: in development. Targets the quiz-attempt page served by the
  Quizzes tool.

## Limits

- Does not run inside lockdown browsers or proctored exam environments, and is
  not intended for use where an institution prohibits assistance.
- No AI is perfect. Answers should be reviewed before submitting.
- Does not generate flashcards, practice quizzes or study guides. It answers
  the test in front of you, and that is all it does.
